Shooting Video for the Web.

EventDV has an informative article on shooting for the web. It is geared for corporate talking head shoots, but has many useful tips. It covers framing, lighting, backgrounds, clothing, etc.

Many people don’t think about the fact that what they are filming, will live forever in a 2” x 3” highly compressed video!! Check it!

I Can't Wait For This!

As a videographer I am always looking for that “film look”! So much so that I bought a Red Rock Micro (pictured below) that attatches to the front of my HDV camera. It uses 35mm still camera lenses to add shallow depth of field to my shots! I love it but it is a big and heavy contraption to carry around.

I always wondered why DSLR’s never added a movie feature to their cameras, I mean point-and-shoot cameras have had that option for years. Well the wait is finally over thanks to Nikon.

The Nikon D-90 comes out next week offering the D-Movie Mode. Just look at the difference shooting video with a shallow depth of field adds to your shots.

This is definitly the beginning of the true all in one camera, it’s only a matter of time! See more videos here.

Google's New Child

This week Google announced Chrome, their new browser. There a bunch of YouTube videos showing off their new baby.

It’s in beta for Windows but not ready for Mac yet, they’re working on it!!

(Anyone else find it odd that they used YouTube for demos over Google Video??)

Thinking Outside The Box.

My Pastor emailed the staff this weekwnd about a two week series in October called FAQ’s!  His idea is for people to ask their questions online by offering different catagories like: Abortion, Drinking, Money, End Times, War, etc. Here is his description:

Sometimes those who teach the Bible are good at answering questions that nobody’s really asking.  Reality Church doesn’t think that’s a good idea.  That’s why every year we offer anyone and everyone the opportunity to ask the questions most important to them.  Sometimes it’s a deep question they’ve wanted to ask for a long time.  At other times, it may just be something they’re slightly curious about—and everything in-between. We invite you to type in your question in the category that seems to best fit.  If no category seems to fit well, we suggest you place it under the category, “other.”  We will answer as many questions as possible.  Join us for FAQ’s at Reality Church on October 19 & 26.

Now, my question to you is what are some ways to pull this off?  There is the boring way of email, but I have heard of churches using texting live at church to pull this off.  Our issue is we are building poor and meet in a High School. I have no wireless signal and are unsure about using their internet.

Let the ideas begin!

Would Jesus Use Video?

In the latest issue of Christian Video Magazine they tackle this question quite well.

In the article they discuss a statement that you may have heard a time or two:

“The Bible says that the church is for the edification and building up of the body of Christ, not entertainment. Preach the word, not entertain people.”

Getting Out There.

One of the biggies on my to do list was our website.  I’m not a web designer by any means, but we feel there are some affordable companies out there to lend a hand.

Anyway, we met with our team that went to The Leadership Summit and determined we were missing the boat by just having a church website. The passion of our church is to reach the unchurched.  We can’t hope that they will see our stuff around town or our bumper stickers and come check out our site or our church.  We have to have a deeper online presence than that.

So, we are diving in head first into social networking and creating MySpace & FaceBook accounts.  We will make sure all of our videos are on YouTube, Vimeo, etc. and that they are embedded on those sites and on our church members sites.

This is not a new thing for churches at all.  BUT…

Are you doing it?  What’s holding you back?

500 gigs in the Palm of Your Hand!

My new toy arrived in the mail today!!  Everything I shoot is in HDV, so when capturing video in to my computer I don’t want to lose any frames.  I always use a firewire external drive to import video!!  The main reason is that thankfully I never have to defrag on a Mac…. wellll, as long as you don’t do heavy video editing.  I do!  So I learned a long time ago to capture everything externally.  For me that always meant a huge and bulky drive to carry around everywhere and I always needed power!!

That all ended today!!  I got a rugged drive from Lacie. 500 gigs of goodness!! It’s USB, Firewire 400/800 and it can be powered by any of those inputs!!!!  Gone is the extra cord and power brick!

Not Art. Gospel. Free Downloads.

Not Art. Gospel. is an artistic view of each topic on the Sermon on the Mount. It has been about a month since we started this project, and it is amazing to see what God is doing with this. Some amazing doors have been opened, and some great conversations have started from this. But what is most important is that the words of Jesus are being discussed. “We want to create art that will lead to God, and we pray that this project will be for His glory.”

Hats off to the gang at The Plow

Get them here & here!!
