BMT Week 1

Thanks for the comments on the last post.  I will keep you up to date!!

In our first session we covered basic camera skills.  I took a class last year with the Travel Channel Academy at The Discovery Channel Headquarters, and I took what I learned and taught the class the 5 SHOT METHOD:

1. Close Up Of The Hands
2. Close Up Of The Face
3. Put The Two Together (Medium Shot)
4. Over The Shoulder
5. Alternate Unique Angle

Giving them the basic shots that are used in EVERYTHING (just watch T.V.), they will begin to understand composition and the thought process of shooting.

The class was given an assignment for the week to pick a location with good action (bike repair shop, restaurant, dance studio, etc.)  and capture PERFECT 10 second clips of every shot and a voiceover (notice I didn’t say interview) from the subject they are filming. Next week we will critique the unedited footage to see how they did. Following the critique, we will choose one project to edit then teach lighting setup for a talking head shot.
